Namesake

Tomorrow the 31st is a special day. Daryl Hyatt, James' Papaw, passed away six years ago on this day. To honor him, we suggest that everyone book a skin cancer screening and everyone take a moment to reflect on your spiritual walk. We believe as Daryl did that you must have a personal relationship with God to go to Heaven when you pass. If you have questions about who God is or how to have a personal relationship with Him, please ask. Even when he was suffering Daryl was not overtaken by anxiety, instead he prayed this prayer that our minister of music made into a song.

When Hard Times Come

O Lord, when hard times come

Help us turn and seek Your face.

O Lord, when hard times come

Helps us learn to trust Your grace.

Lord, You are My Rock and my Salvation.

You're my Refuge and Strength in times of need.

Lord, Your power is perfect in my weakness

and Your grace is sufficient for me.

-Daryl Hyatt

James thanks you for taking a moment to reflect on matters that were important to his Papaw and important for his family. In addition, if you have the chance, please pray for peace for Diana, Adam, April and the family.

Dr, Dr Give Me the News

Our doctor's visit went very well today. We did not see Dr. Chase, but that is okay. James has grown 1/2 of an inch taller, his head has gotten a 1/2 of an inch bigger and he has gained 8 oz in 8 days. James is wonderfully on track, just in a lower percentile for weight and height. The doctor we saw asked us how tall we were; I am glad he did not ask how much we weigh. James did learn a new trick this morning: burping up entire contents of stomach at once after eating. That trick is really special, especially on Mommy and her clothes! Otherwise, all is well. Until next time...

As Time Goes By

James and I are trying to have a good time while Adam is at school. We enjoy such activities as diapering, eating and trying to get some sleep. Thankfully, I have not been annointed during a diaper change, but I am sure my time is coming. Adam has been very helpful during the night by taking a wide-awake James and allowing me to get some sleep. The boys go lay on the couch and enjoy some male bonding. I am not sure what makes James be wide awake at 4am but hopefully he will outgrow that! While James has been filling out more in the face, his regular sized clothes still don't fit. I am hoping they fit better soon because now he is getting too big for his preemie outfits. Either way, the kid has a lot of clothes and some good looking shoes. That is our latest update. We'll post again tomorrow with the results of his two-week checkup with Dr. Chase!

Work

Today was my first day of student teaching, and while I hated leaving Kari and James at home, I was pretty excited and a little nervous about my first day. I did little other than introduce myself to the students and observe the classes of the teacher I will be working with, but it was fulfilling and tiring at the same time. I am very excited to be working with a teacher who is very good at what he does and shares a similar perspective with me on how history should be taught. I was also supposed to begin my class at Georgetown today, or so I thought. After looking at the college calendar online to find out when my on campus class began I made the trip to Georgetown. Halfway there, I had to take a detour all the way over to Midway to get on the interstate because 460 was closed. After taking the detour as fast as I safely could, I arrived at my classroom right at the starting time of 4:50 to find an empty classroom. It turns out that while undergraduate classes began today, graduate classes don't start until next week. So after a long day at school, I wasted a little over an hour driving back and forth the long way to Georgetown. Sometimes God has interesting ways of teaching us things; I think he's trying to make me realize how much I need to work on my patience.

Strike a Pose

Hey guys. All of our photos have been put into a collection on shutterfly. The address is http://hyattfamily.shutterfly.com . The password is Kari. Make sure you use a capital K. This way you can see all of the pictures we have so far. I am sure the collection will continue to grow. Peace.

Back to life, back to reality

Today is our last day of being home as a family. It has been nice to settle down and James has been nice enough to sleep for about 3.5 hours to let his momma nap and daddy do more laundry. I believe that Adam has done more laundry in the last week than he has in his entire life. Thank you to Susan for making the curtains in the nursery. She and Adam hung them up yesterday and they just add the perfect touch. Included is a picture for your enjoyment. Kristy left this morning to go back to Philly and her brood. Thanks to Dale for letting us have her for awhile. James goes back to the Dr's this Thursday for his two week checkup. I guess that is the news. I might write tomorrow night to let you all know how Adam's first day of student teaching went. Pray for lots of sleep tonight!

Life goes on

We have started forming a routine now. Well, at least a routine until Adam begins student teaching on Monday. Then James and I will have to make our own routine. Adam also has his first class on Monday night at Georgetown. He will be a very tired guy. My sister Kristy is in town, she has been holding the baby, taking pictures and video. James had his first official sponge bath this morning. The first unofficial sponge bath was not very successful. The good news we have is that James' bilirubin levels continue to go down and so we do not have to have any more blood drawn at the hospital! His jaundice is barely noticeable. Thanks to all that have been praying for a quick recovery for James. Also, thank you to all of you who have sent/prepared food for us. We really appreciate it.

Tanning Bed Baby

Well, James has his own special tanning bed to help break up his jaundice. The only bad part is that he HATES it! He starts screaming when we put him in it. So, we are working on some different techniques to get him to enjoy the bed. Otherwise, he is putting on about an ounce in weight a day and seems to be thriving. We only get about 10 minutes of open-eye time a day, but when they are open you just kinda melt. He is awfully cute if I do say so myself.

I really like my swing!

Home Sweet Home

We are home! Adam, James and I came home at about 1:30 today. More of my family were here to help us pack our stuff from the hospital to the house. Thank you to them and those who helped us while we were in the hospital. I would start naming them but I am sure I would forget someone. My brain is still not functioning fully. By the way, if I said any strange things to visitors in the hospital, sorry. I am just now realizing how whacky I was on all of the medicines. So, James has jaundice, actually a higher level that is getting monitored by the pediatrician. We have to go have more blood work done tomorrow and will let you all know what is going on. Thanks to all for the prayers and good thoughts.

Our Sweet Baby James is here

Our sweet baby James Daryl was born today at 12:19 pm. He weighs 6lbs 9ozs. We have yet to get the official measurement on his length, but should have it soon. Like everything else that has come with getting James here, God had some challenges in store for us. When we arrived at the hospital last night for them to begin inducing labor Kari's blood pressure got very high. The medicine they gave her to prevent seizures made her feel pretty sick. Then her blood pressure dropped dramatically this morning when they gave her the epidural. Despite the struggles with the medications, James came pretty quickly after the doctor broke her water this morning a little before 8:00. Both kari and James are doing well after a nice, long nap this afternoon. If all goes well, and Kari's blood pressure stabilizes, we should get to go home on Saturday. James is perfect. He has his mother's chin and my long fingers and toes. We thank God for bringing us this far, and everyone for your sustaining prayers. Please continue to pray for us as we prepare to transition home. Enjoy the pictures. Blessings to all.

Settin' up

Howdy folks. Tomorrow is an important day so I thought I would get started posting today. James is set to make his apprearance tomorrow, August 16th. Hopefully I will get pictures and such added to our site. Have patience though, I've been told that new babies take a lot of work. I might be slightly busy! Love to all.
