Workin for the weekend

This week is pretty crazy! Adam is finishing his student teaching on Friday. Also on Friday Jamie has a cardiology appointment. We were unable to get an appt at the hospital for the barium swallow until Dec 13th. So we will have an all-day uk visit that day. The pulmonologist wants to do a follow-up the same day but they don't have any appts open so they are double-booking us. Yuck, cause that means we will be waiting! oh well. Church is about to start getting extra busy. We have our big craft auction this Sunday. That is always fun for the first 4 hrs!:) Well, I guess that is all I know. Peace out.

Gobble Gobble

Happy Turkey! As you can see, James worked hard to help the boys make cinnamon rolls. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. You may all know that Adam and I are most thankful for James, who is trully a gift from God! On a medical note, James saw the pediatric pulmonologist on Wednesday. He got a new inhaler that is much easier than making him smoke a peace pipe for 15 minutes at a time. We are going back to UK hospital this coming week for a barium swallow and followup dr's appointment. They are looking to see if the reflux is getting into his trachea. As of right now, we are continuing to treat his symptoms as asthma. B/C he is now getting a higher dose of albuterol thru the inhaler, it is making him more "hyper" or fighting sleep more. That has been an adjustment. On a happier note, I put up the Christmas tree today and ordered our cards with James' pretty face on them. Well, I guess that is it. Oh, congrats needs to go out to Jonathan and Kelley. They are ENGAGED! September 13th, 2008. Fun times.

doctor, doctor, tell me the news

Jamie went to the dr's on Fri for a follow-up from the hospital visit. We saw Dr. Blair and he confirmed for us that Jamie doesn't sound any better. Since he doesn't know what else to do, he is passing the buck to a pediatric pulmonologist? (lung specialist) up at uk in lexington. Dr. Conga had to do surgery on Dr. Blair's son many moons ago and Dr. Blair thinks he is awesome. So, Dr. Blair put in a phone call to Dr. Conga and when Dr. Conga called back he found out that Dr. Conga is going to Australia for 3 weeks to present. But, Dr. conga didn't want Jamie to wait that long w/o being seen so he is going to have an appointment this week with one of the partners. On one hand I am glad that we are getting in so soon. On the other hand it makes it seem like Jamie's issues are a little more serious that he can't wait three weeks. Anyhoo, they are supposed to call us and let us know. Dr. Conga is in the same practice as Jamie's cariologist. So, for now, we are still doing breathing treatments every 4 hours, using the super special formula and treating his reflux by elevating the bed, etc etc. We really just want to know what is wrong with Jamie. He has started crying for no apparent reason. It makes me think he is hurting somehow and we can't figure it out. Maybe after the visit with the specialist we can make it better. On another note, Adam took a praxis exam Saturday. It is the teaching certification exam that all peeps have to take. I believe it was based on teaching secondary education, grades 8-12. He thinks he did ok. He should hear back at the new year. I think that is it for us. Peace out.

Proof

See... Jamie isn't any worse for the wear. He actually discovered his reflection on the bulb above his swing.

Let the Good Times Roll

Update: Adam, James and I spent most of the day day yesterday, last night and this morning in the hospital. James was admitted yesterday at approximately 11:45ish am. Diana aka grammy had taken him for a doc's appointment at 10:30 to check up on his congestion/breathing issues. His breathing was not good in the office so they gave him a breathing treatment like the ones Adam gives him here. After the treatment James' breathing did not improve so they decided to admit him. Adam and I drove the speed limit to get there from our respective schools. I had to drive speed limit cause there was a cop behind me most of the way. Once James was admitted he was weighed, given another breathing treatment, heel pricked and fed. He was supposed to get an iv but the nurses didn't want to do it so they didn't. We didn't want him to have one either so we were happy. He is still eating, just not what he normally does which is too much anyway. James later had to have a chest xray and a real blood draw. That was awful. It was a real needle in the crook of his elbow with a mini tourniquet tied around his arm. I cried. He did too but the phlebotomist held him after and he got quiet real quick. The phlebotomist remembered him from when he was born and was getting blood drawn for the jaundice. She was so impressed by how big he had gotten. Since she last saw him he has gotten less yellow and doubled in weight. After each procedure, James perked right up. He was flirting with nurses and visitors that came in. He caught a couple of quick naps here and there. The doc, my least favorite of the whole practice, came in and really didn't give us any real info. So, we spent the night. James went to sleep pretty well and probably would have slept thru the night but the nurses said that we had to wake him up and feed or they would have to put the iv in. So we tried to wake him up but he didn't want to eat. That wasn't fun. This morning the doc who was Adam's pediatrician was on call. He examined James, asked a lot of questions and came up with a game plan. Since all of James' test results were excellent, he doesn't have an "illness". But, the breathing issue has been going on for awhile. He believes that there is another culprit behind it. He thinks that possibly James is allergic to something, therefore causing lung junk/asthma. First I have to remove all candles from the house. Second, we are going to try a hypoallergenic formula. The doc thinks that maybe the allergy is allowing James to stay ill. We are going to try this. If it solves the problem, gravy. If not, we will try adjusting something else. The only issue is that this special formula is crazy expensive. Oh well, I hope this works. We should know in the next couple of days if it works. We continue breathing treatments every four hours. The daycare said that they would do it when he is there. Twice a day he gets another medicine. I think that is everything. I am still feeling not so good myself. Adam is still blowing his nose/sneezing too. I am planning on spending some of today and the weekend sanitizing the house. Pray that we can find the allergy culprit. Peace out.

sweet nothings

Heather Burson: BABY WHISPERER
I am sure that you did not know this but my best friend of 14 years has a magic baby touch. All she had to do was rock James once or twice and "whisper" to him and he was out like a light. I am not sure if she is for hire, but I'll remember her powers forever!

an apple a day keeps the doctor away!

By the way, that is not true. Our family is sick with allergy/cough/wheezing/fever. It is just a good time. BTW, I redid the shutterfly link so that it works. I won't stay on long, just giving a quick update. Peace out. These pics are from James' dedication.

Crazy

Hi peeps. Revisit http://hyattfamily2.shutterfly.com/ for updated pics. The password is Adam with a capital A. So, another week; another observation for Adam. He doesn't have to worry about them cause he is his observer's favorite student. I am currently quite busy at school dealing with alternate assessments for students. They are involved and pointless, they don't even get scored by teachers! For more info, just call me and I can give you all sorts of examples of how the education system is crazy. On a good note, our spec ed deprt got a new reading program that is very beneficial. We will hopefully get to begin at the new year. James is getting chunkier daily. He likes to visit with people and smile and coo at them. We believe he is trying to get some teeth. I know it is early but there is a white bump on his gum and he started screaming last night and would not stop until be put some baby ambisol on it. Then he was okay. So, who knows, maybe he is going to be a toothy kid! That is it for our update. Leave some comments so that I know you all are looking at this thing.
